Restarting Tourism in Portugal

Welcome to our Restarting Tourism in Portugal issue, where our local team, based in Portugal, lets you in on all that is happening around here, as we walk towards regaining some sense of normality back! Watch this space for news regarding the restrictions, the key reopening dates and how is life in Portugal at the moment.

Portugal is open for Tourism!
Today Portugal reopens to European Union, Schengen countries and United Kingdom

After the reopening of the land borders with Spain, Portugal, as of today, reopens to all of those in the Europe Union and within the Schengen agreement - with the exception of Sweden, Netherlands, Croatia and Lithuania - and the United Kingdom, the first non-EU country resuming its travels to Portugal.

Portugal is open for Tourism!

Passengers will have to present a negative RT-PCR test made 72h prior the trip starting date. The ease of restrictions on leisure travel for more countries is still being decided and there is hope for new information to arise until the end of the month.

News of the first arrivals at Faro airport can be read here: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/todays-day-british-holidaymakers-return-portugal-travel-ban-ends-2021-05-17/

Time to go to the beach

Coastal areas in Portugal

This weekend many coastal areas in Portugal marked the start of beach season. Similar to last year, the occupancy of the beaches is managed through a mobile app (info praia) which, through a stoplight system, lets you in on the beach availability. Bathers are required to keep a distance between beach towels as well.

Beach restaurants (as all other restaurants in the country) are also open, with full and regular schedule, and a maximum of 6 people per table indoors, 10 if outdoor seating.

So, all is set and ready to enjoy sunshine and warm temperatures!

The overall situation in Portugal remains stable, with a reduced number of cases, focused in specific areas of the country, and almost inexistant death toll, given the progress on the vaccination, now already advancing to new age groups of the population. (see graphic above).

Time to go to the beach

We remain optimistic and eager to welcome you back. We will be updating this issue as soon as information is confirmed by the decision-makers.
